I watched Zootopia 2 with the memory of the first film still very clear: a bright animal metropolis, a bunny cop with impossible ambition, a fox with a lifetime of practiced cynicism, and a mystery that slowly exposed the city’s hidden prejudices. A sequel to that kind of story has a difficult job. It cannot simply show more districts, more animal puns, and more fast chases. It has to prove that Zootopia still has something uncomfortable and meaningful to reveal about itself.
