I watched The Super Mario Galaxy Movie with the feeling that the Mario film universe had been waiting for this exact leap. The first movie had to introduce the Mushroom Kingdom, the pipes, the power-ups, the bright kingdoms, the familiar enemies, and the basic rhythm of Mario on screen. This sequel gets to do something bigger and stranger. It takes that colorful foundation and throws it into space, where planets are tiny, gravity bends like a toy, stars have personalities, and the Mario logic suddenly feels even more cinematic.
