I watched The Fantastic Four: First Steps with the sense that Marvel’s first family needed something different from the usual superhero reintroduction. The film makes a smart choice by not treating the team as strangers slowly learning how to stand beside one another. Reed, Sue, Ben, and Johnny already have history, public identity, fame, frustration, habits, and emotional shorthand. That gives the movie a warmer starting point. It feels less like a team being assembled and more like a family being tested.
