I watched The Summer I Turned Pretty expecting a soft teen romance full of beach light, first love, pretty clothes, pool scenes, and dramatic glances across rooms. It has all of that, but what kept me watching was the ache underneath the summer glow. The series understands that adolescence often feels most intense in places that are supposed to be carefree. Cousins Beach looks like a dream of vacations, traditions, late-night swims, family dinners, and golden afternoons, but the show slowly reveals how much grief, longing, jealousy, and confusion live inside that beauty.
