Pokémon™ Scarlet is one of the most ambitious mainline Pokémon games because it finally pushes the series into a more open structure. Instead of moving through a mostly fixed path from town to town, I can explore Paldea with far more freedom, choose which objectives to follow, encounter Pokémon across wide landscapes, and build my journey around curiosity rather than strict route order. That sense of openness gives the game a very different feel from older entries.
Pros
- Open-world structure makes the Pokémon journey feel more flexible and personal
- Paldea offers varied biomes, visible Pokémon encounters, and strong discovery moments
- Three story paths provide more variety than a simple Gym-only structure
- Team building remains satisfying and emotionally engaging
- Terastallization adds tactical surprise and visual spectacle to battles
- Official download and install options provide the safest experience
- Supported Nintendo platforms offer proper updates, saves, and online features
- Traversal upgrades make exploration more rewarding over time
- Good fit for collectors, casual RPG fans, and longtime Pokémon players
- Strong creature variety helps every player build a personal favorite team
Cons
- Some towns and interiors feel less interactive than expected
- Players wanting highly polished open-world systems may feel disappointed
- The game’s ambition sometimes exceeds its technical presentation
