Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears to confirm that Yelena Belova has officially taken on the Black Widow title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Florence Pugh’s character makes a cameo during the film, helping Peter Parker deal with a mysterious threat capable of moving between bodies. She later speaks with Peter during another key moment involving Ned and MJ.

During the conversation, Ned identifies Yelena as Black Widow. Although the moment is brief, it marks the first clear use of the title for Yelena within the MCU.

The name was previously associated with Natasha Romanoff, played by Scarlett Johansson. Following Natasha’s death in Avengers: Endgame and the closure of the Red Room program, Yelena gradually established her own place among Marvel’s heroes.

She currently leads the Thunderbolts team, now operating as the New Avengers, and is expected to continue carrying Natasha’s legacy in future MCU projects, including Avengers: Doomsday.
